A legend told by Alex Mathias has it that many years ago, after people of Temagami had a battle with Iroquios at Waw-Kay-mika (Wakimika) lake, at sandy beach on its northen shore, many local warriors died. A strong man carried their bodies all the way to Chi-bai-gin, many miles away, to be buried on the sacred mountain.
